31. Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act

The Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (FD&C Act), codified at Title 21 of the U.S. Code, is the primary law governing the safety and regulation of food, drugs, medical devices, and cosmetics in the United States. First passed in 1938, it grants the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) the authority to oversee these products to protect public health.
