Federal Law
19. Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA)

The Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 (ERISA), codified at 29 U.S.C. Chapter 18, is a comprehensive federal law that sets minimum standards for most voluntarily established retirement and health plans in private industry. ERISA does not require any employer to establish a plan; it only requires that those who do establish plans must meet certain minimum standards.
