Federal Law
13. Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA)

The Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA) is a landmark federal law that gives workers and their families who lose their health benefits the right to choose to continue group health benefits provided by their group health plan for limited periods of time under certain circumstances. These circumstances are known as 'qualifying events.' The provisions are found in Title 29 of the U.S. Code and the Internal Revenue Code.
